Drawing on a Pottery Shard

A colored pottery shard found at the Tell al-Mafjar site in Jericho, featuring a drawing of a gazelle. Gazelles were animals that lived in the environment of early humans, and humans hunted them to provide a part of their food. This pottery shard represents a simple form of art recorded by early humans on pottery vessels from the 4th millennium BC. Colors from plant roots were used to paint and decorate the pottery.
