Women's Hat (Taqiyya)
A "Taqiyya" is a small square piece of fabric crafted to fit the head. It is often adorned with silk embroidery and has hanging fringes on both sides. Taqiyyas were frequently embellished with silver and gold coins and served as the dowry for married women, worn on their heads. This type of headscarf was used by women in Palestine during the Ottoman and British Mandate periods, up until the mid-20th century. The shapes of these headscarves varied from one region to another, and they were known by different names, such as "wiqa," "Iraqiyya," "saffa," "shatwa," and "samada," depending on the area.
