Palestinian Coinage
After the British occupation of Palestine in 1918, the use of the Ottoman currency was discontinued. Egyptian currency was adopted for transactions until 1927 when the mandate government introduced new metal and paper currency. The metal currency included 1 mil, 2 mils, 5 mils, 10 mils, 20 mils, 50 mils, and 100 mils, while the paper currency came in denominations of half a pound (500 mils), one pound, ten pounds, fifty pounds, and one hundred pounds. These currencies were printed in the three official languages, Arabic, English, and Hebrew, and remained in circulation until the Nakba in 1948.
