Athenian Coin
Known in archaeological literature as the Palestinian-Arabic currency, this is a silver coin from the Persian period struck in Athens. It is considered the oldest currency used by people in Palestine for economic and financial transactions, replacing the barter system. The obverse side features the image of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, wearing a helmet adorned with olive leaves. On the reverse side, there is an owl, an olive branch, a crescent, and three letters A-Θ-E, indicating Athens.
