Statue Head

Umayyad statue head, Hisham's Palace (Mafjar), made of gypsum in a Roman-style mold, used for decoration in the Great Bath. All facial details are clear, including the mouth, nose, and ears. It seems that glass beads or inlays were placed where the eyes should be, and the strands of hair are visible. This statue represents a continuation of Roman and Byzantine traditions in sculpture.
